Google has officially concluded software support for the Pixel 5a, marking the end of its three-year update commitment. Launched in August 2021, the Pixel 5a was guaranteed to receive major Android updates and security patches until August 2024. However, Google extended support slightly, releasing a final security update in November 2024.

The November update, identified by build number AP2A.240805.005.S4, addresses minor issues related to adaptive brightness, Bluetooth routing, and media player notifications. Users can manually download the over-the-air (OTA) update or factory image from Google’s official site.

With the cessation of official updates, Pixel 5a devices will no longer receive security patches or new features, potentially increasing vulnerability to security threats over time. Users are advised to consider upgrading to newer models to maintain optimal security and access to the latest Android features.

Google’s recent Pixel devices, such as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series, come with extended support periods. The Pixel 8 series, for instance, offers seven years of both Android version and security updates, ensuring prolonged device longevity.

As the Pixel 5a reaches its end-of-life phase, users should explore current Pixel models or other Android devices that align with their preferences and security requirements.
